Adventures at the Pier.
My friend, M, lives overseas. When she told me she was coming home to visit for a little while and asked me to take their photos, I was thrilled! This session was unique in many ways. She was excited by the idea of having her photos done in a place where there are lots of people and happenings. Although I have plenty of experience taking photos under those circumstances with my own family, I had yet to do that something like that in a professional session. She also didn't want a lot of posed and artificial looking photographs, which is very much my preferred style, but also not how I usually am able to shoot entire sessions. I did direct them once in a while to make sure some of the shots were clear or the light wasn't interfering too badly, but this session was all about observing these two gorgeous ladies have a fun evening at the Old Orchard Beach Pier. They played by water, built hills in the sand, explored under the pier, got ice cream, and even explored the pier itself and danced a little. At one point the singer at a restaurant led the dancing toddler inside and propped her up on the stage with a tambourine! This session was full of the beauty of the ocean, the joy and commotion of being downtown, and the bliss and spontaneity of motherhood. To me, this was more of a lifestyle session than a portrait session and I love the photos it resulted in. I am so glad to have been able to take photos of the "L" family!
