Celebrating the end of Cancer Treatment
A little over a year ago, we were on our annual camping trip with our wonderful family friends. Anita and I both were not our best selves hiking; I was still recovering from breaking my leg that winter, and she was recovering from a painful biopsy and trying not to think about the results she was waiting on. A week later she told me the results came back and it was the worse news ever; breast cancer. I was in shock, and I was so sad for her an her family. They are such a kind, healthy, adventurous and smart family. This was devestating news! Anita is even an ultra-marathon runner. I couldn't believe this was happening to her. That summer, we tooks some family photos. It was right before she lost all her hair to chemo.
This year was such a difficult year for her and her family. I am so grateful that they have made it this far though! This spring, Anita and her family were able to celebrate the end of gruelling chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Her body responded well to removing the cancer and her future looks hopeful.
Being such a kind and helpful family, Anita and her boys decided to make a book for kids all about cancer. They had found that there not many materials available for their age about what to expect and how to cope with their mother having cancer. In their book, they talk about their feelings and experiences with their mom being treated for cancer, and they included a lot of drawings they had made to help express themselves. I did a photo shoot with them shortly after treatment was over so that they could include photographs too. It is my sincere hope that Anita never has to go through chemotherapy again, and that she is able to continue to travel, adventure, learn, and grow with her boys. Here are some favorite photos from our session together. I know that she misses her long, thick hair, but it is so exciting to see her hair growing back! And this new hair is such a hip, gorgeous look for her. She looks so mighty! I am always in awe of this women, and wish her many healthy years.
