Hi there, I'm Jasmin!
I am an observer.
Ever since I was a little girl, I spent my days outside searching for little creatures or adventuring with my animal buddies. When I wasn't reading books or out exploring, I was sketching animals and taking photos with my disposable cameras. I filled albums with snapshots of families, friends, and animals.
That love of observing to gain a better understanding of the world followed me into adulthood. As a scientist (B.S. Biology, minor Biochemistry, M.Sc. Conservation Biology), I used my keen observation skills to patiently study wildlife in the field. Then, as a mother, I have been enchanted with the beauty of observing my children grow, learn, develop, and interact with the world as they discover who they are. And I love to photograph it all.
Photography has been a constant companion in my life. I have been a portrait photographer for three years, but I also have experience as a writer/photographer for an online farm blog and take professional photographs for a martial arts studio and dog walking company. I am always drawn to how to best capture my insights while observing nature, places, and the people I am with through images. I carry my camera everywhere because it brings me great joy to share the beautiful places and the simple, yet meaningful interactions I observe. Photographs are wonderful ways to preserve and remember moments in time.
I am not a very outgoing person, but I do love and appreciate people. If you are looking for a photographer with a calm, gentle demeanor who will not force you into awkward poses, I am your lady. As a portrait photographer, my goal is to capture genuine moments, and I strive to photograph the essence of people. I encourage people to be themselves, though I will guide you if you desire help. I use natural light and prefer to shoot outdoors at locations that are meaningful or appealing to you.
What else can I tell you about me? Let's see, I love hiking and gardening and all things nature and wildlife. I have been practicing Iyengar Yoga for over a decade and I am working towards a black belt in martial arts. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy and I play a lot of board games and video games with my husband and friends. My house is full with two little boys, two orange kitties, and two duck tolling retrievers that we geekily named Merry and Pippin (aka our Hobbit dogs). I like to knit, crochet, write, make music, and I homeschool my kids. I have a very full life...and I love to photograph it! Let me photograph yours.
